The NSW Railway Band

For over 100 years NSW railway bands have thrilled audiences with their big brass sound. From the NSW Railway Military Band formed in 1896 to the current NSW Railway Band, uniforms, band members and styles of music have fluctuated according to the current styles.  In the past, all members were railway employees, but today players come from many walks of life and are all ages, including retirees. Currently the band is proudly under the patronage of the Governor of NSW, Professor Marie Bashir.

The NSW Railway Band plays to appreciative audiences at various events and venues including the Anzac Day March and memorial services, Steamfest and many CityRail railway stations during the festive season. It also plays regularly at Central Station on the last Tuesday of every month.

From swing, marches, light entertainment and show pieces, the band plays a wide variety of music. There is almost no genre of music they do not play.
