Asquith Car Park project
Update: 7 March 2012
RailCorp apologises for any inconvenience caused by the delay in construction of a new customer and staff car park at Asquith Station on Haldane Street.
The upgrade works commenced in January 2011 with a scheduled finish date of April 2011. After a few delays due to poor weather conditions and the need to dispose of asbestos found during excavation, the completion date was revised to the end of January 2012.
Since then, the scope of the project has changed. Works on the site have been on hold while we complete an essential re-design of the car park.
Retaining wall
RailCorp was required to undertake additional engineering solutions for the retaining wall for both car parks. The re-engineering of this wall was required to meet the site constraints and RailCorp Engineering Standards for retaining platforms.
New designs for the wall were required to be prepared by an external engineering organisation and then priced. This design process has been thorough, which has led to some significant delays. The final solution has just been completed and RailCorp is now having this design priced.
This revised design complies with RailCorp standards and maintains integrity of the existing Overhead Wiring stanchion footing.
Site mobilisation
RailCorp's contractor, ProGroup will mobilise its workforce as soon as the revised pricing is confirmed and approvals granted.
Forecast to completion and community notification
RailCorp will notify the community when works on site are due to recommence. The letter will outline the reasons for the delay and will forecast the car park's completion date.
Additional information will also be made available at Asquith station.
What's being built?
The car park, which will be at the existing street level, will help free up on-street parking and provide staff and customers with a more convenient place to park. It will also include one space for people with a disability.
