Internships
RailCorp's Internship Program encourages students to explore a number of areas of interests within their disciplines. The aim of the internship is to enrich the learning that occurs during practical experience so that students can be more effective as practicing engineers and business professionals.
The Internship Program is a structured 6-18 month program giving you hands on experience and the flexibility to work during the semester around your university schedule, and the opportunity to work full time during the semester breaks.
Who we want
To apply for RailCorp's Internship Program, it is a requirement to satisfy the following criteria:
- Currently a full time student studying a relevant degree
- Completing your degree between July 2012 and July 2013
- Be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or permanent resident of Australia
- Be available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week during semester periods and full-time during university holidays
RailCorp will be recruiting Engineering Interns from the following disciplines:
- Civil
- Computer Systems/Science
- Electrical
- Environmental
- Mechanical
- Mechatronics
- Software
- Surveying
- Signalling
- Telecommunications
The Customer Service Internship recruits from various disciplines. This Internship is suited for students who are "customer focused", possesses a "can-do" attitude and are interested in leading others.

Frequently asked questions
1. Do I need to be an Australian resident when I apply?
Yes, to be eligible to work for RailCorp, all interns must hold Australian or New Zealand Citizenship or Permanent Residency Status in Australia.
2. How long does the recruitment process take?
The recruitment process from application opening date to making offers is expected to take between 5-6 months with a tentative start date of November/December 2011.
3. What if I'm studying a double degree?
You are required to complete all components of both degrees between July 2012 and July 2013 to be eligible for any stream of the Internship Program.
4. What locations will I be working at?
As an intern with RailCorp you would be required to rotate through various locations in the Sydney metropolitan area during your program to ensure you obtain experience in all aspects of your chosen discipline.
5. How do I find out if my application has been successful?
RailCorp receives many applications each day, and endeavours to assess and respond to every application as quickly as possible. All applicants will be advised about whether their application will progress once all applications have been assessed. This will be as soon as possible after the advertised closing date. 6. If I was successful in gaining an Internship position with RailCorp, when would I start?
Internship programs are expected to start in November/December 2011.
