Internships at RailCorp
The rail industry is an exciting and rewarding industry to work in and offers unparalleled opportunities for students to enhance their skills through practical application of their knowledge.
We invite university students from a variety of disciplines to apply for internships with RailCorp. This is a fantastic opportunity for ambitious students to join us in creating an exciting future for rail transport in NSW. We are looking for energetic, positive and determined students to play an important role in ensuring that RailCorp is at the forefront of the industry.
As an intern at RailCorp, you will provide assistance to project managers and get involved in various aspects of project management. Along the way you will also work with experienced professionals who are committed to your career development in a fast paced and stimulating environment.
Aim of the Internship
The aim of the program is to offer second, third and fourth year university students the opportunity to apply the skills they have learnt at university to a practical workplace. The program aims to encourage hands-on experience through a structured 3-6 month Internship.
We have a diverse range of career opportunities and the program encourages students to explore a number of areas of interest within their discipline.
3rd or 4th year Students who complete their internship with RailCorp are then given the opportunity to be streamed into the Graduate program, upon the completion of their degree.
What are we looking for in an intern?
We are looking for students who want to develop a career in a dynamic environment. You will be:
- innovative and adaptable;
- a technical problem solver;
- at least one year into your degree;
- a good communicator;
- an excellent team player;
- willing to learn and question; and
- have good computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
What do I need to be eligible to apply?
We are looking for students who want to develop a career in a dynamic environment. You will be:
- Currently studying as an Undergraduate;
- Currently studying at a university within Australia; or
- An overseas student studying in Australia with a current working visa.
- You must currently be completing at least your second year of university.
How does the Internship work?
- It is a three or six month contract that allows you to work either full time or part time while you are studying at university.
- At the end of your six month contract, you have the choice to extend this contract by a further six months (maximum).
- Students are employed on a temporary basis and the rate of pay varies depending on your current year of study.

What is Internship to Graduate Streaming?
RailCorp is now offering an exciting opportunity for all Interns looking to continue into our Graduate program.
Once you have completed your internship with RailCorp you will be given the opportunity to be streamed into the RailCorp Graduate program. To be streamed into the Graduate program you must:
- Complete and pass your University degree - RailCorp must be provided with a copy of your transcript upon completion.
- Complete a 3 - 6 month Internship with RailCorp and receive a satisfactory performance review from your direct manager.
- Successfully complete the Graduate Assessment Centre
- One satisfactory reference check from a pervious employer.
How many Internships are available with RailCorp?
RailCorp bi-annually, employs up to 50 students within engineering and other business disciplines.
When does the Internship start?
There are two Internship intakes every year. The first for a December/January start, the second for a July/August start.
