Developing Engineers Program
The aim of RailCorp's Developing Engineers Program is to develop graduates' capabilities both professionally and technically and to better equip them to fulfil RailCorp's current and emerging needs. A Developing Engineer will play an integral role in the design and delivery of critical engineering and infrastructure projects to meet key business, safety and legislative requirements.
The Developing Engineers Program is a structured two year program, consisting of four six-month rotations across RailCorp to develop expertise in the relevant areas.
The four areas are:
- Design
- Construction
- Maintenance
- Project management/Standards
Who we want
To apply for RailCorp's Developing Engineers Program, it is a requirement to satisfy the following criteria:
- Must have a completed relevant engineering degree between December 2009 and December 2011
- Be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or permanent resident of Australia
- Be available to work full-time

- Computer Systems/Science
- Electrical
- Mechatronics
- Software
- Telecommunications
- Surveying
- Fire & Life Safety

Frequently asked questions
1. Do I need to be an Australian resident when I apply?
Yes, to be eligible to work for RailCorp, all interns must hold Australian or New Zealand Citizenship or Permanent Residency Status in Australia.
2. What if I have a degree from overseas?
Graduates with overseas qualifications must demonstrate that their degrees have been officially recognised by an Australian university.
3. What is the starting salary?
The current commencement salary, as of April 2011, is $60,504 per annum inclusive of a $2,730 industry allowance. Annual increments are subject to performance development reviews. Compulsory superannuation of 9% is paid by RailCorp.
4. What entitlements will I receive?
RailCorp employees are entitled to:
- 4 weeks annual leave per year (shift workers are entitled to 5 weeks per year)
- 15 days sick leave per year
- Accrued day off every four weeks
- Travel pass valid on the NSW public transport system including, CityRail and CountryLink Trains (within NSW), State Transit Buses and Sydney Ferries.
5. How long does the recruitment process take?
The recruitment process from application opening date to making offers is expected to take between 3-4 months with a tentative start date of October/November 2011.
6. What locations will I be working at?
As an graduate with RailCorp you would be required to rotate through various locations in the Sydney metropolitan area during your program to ensure you obtain experience in all aspects of your chosen discipline.
7. How do I find out if my application has been successful?
RailCorp receives many applications each day, and endeavours to assess and respond to every application as quickly as possible.
