Developing Engineers Program

The aim of RailCorp’s Developing Engineers graduate program is to develop future engineering experts and leaders in a number of engineering disciplines. You will play an integral role in the design and delivery of critical engineering and infrastructure projects to meet key business, safety and legislative requirements. Rail engineers design, test, improve, build and maintain signalling systems, track structures and rolling stock

Opportunities are available for engineering graduates who will hold degrees in the following disciplines by the end of the year:

  • Electrical
  • Civil
  • Mechatronics
  • Telecommunications
  • Computer Systems
  • Mechanical
  • Surveying/Geomatic
  • Environmental
  • Signalling

How the program works

You will gain your experience through four nine-month rotations across RailCorp during the three-year program to develop expertise in the relevant areas.

The four areas are:

  • project management/construction
  • asset management/routine maintenance
  • design, and
  • the final rotation is your choice and can be in any area of the organisation.

The aim of the program is to develop graduates’ capabilities both professionally and technically and to better equip them to fulfil RailCorp’s current and emerging needs through:

  • a customised three-year career development and training plan including technical and management skills
  • job rotation every nine months, and
  • sponsoring of graduates to complete and achieve their professional status to become CPEng qualified.

Engineering graduates are employed on a permanent contract at a starting salary of $51,969.

RailCorp is seeks graduates who possess strong conceptual and analytical skills, well developed interpersonal and teamwork skills and have a passion for instilling change and continuous improvement.

What do I need to be eligible to apply?

To apply to join RailCorp’s graduate program applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

  • successful completion of a relevant degree prior to commencement of the program
  • graduates with overseas qualifications must demonstrate that their degrees have been officially recognised by an Australian university or the Institution of Engineers Australia, and
  • all applicants must be eligible to work in Australia.

How many graduates will RailCorp take on the program?

RailCorp is seeking approximately 35 graduates to join the Developing Engineers program.

When does the graduate program start?

Engineers are able to commence from August 2008 onwards. The majority of Graduates commence their employment in January 2009.
