Careers in Asset Management

The Asset Management Group is responsible for developing and maintaining RailCorp’s infrastructure such as rolling stock, track, communications and control systems, structures, major projects, associated capital works and strategic asset management.

Below are some examples of roles within the Group. Check for positions currently available in Asset Management.

Infrastructure workers - track and structures

Infrastructure workers are primarily responsible for doing the physical work associated with the maintenance and construction of infrastructure assets and equipment. They work on rail track, bridges, tunnels, platforms, level crossings, overhead wiring structures, point machines and signal hardware, using rail-specific and non rail-specific plant equipment. Additional duties include:

  • being involved in the inspection and certification of infrastructure assets and equipment;
  • providing preventative maintenance to infrastructure assets and equipment;
  • renewing or constructing new infrastructure assets; and
  • being involved in the provision of safe working activities.

The Infrastructure division has maintenance depots across the greater metropolitan area. Depots are located at Kiama, Waterfall, Wollongong, Sutherland, Hornsby, Wyong, Adamstown, Ingleburn, Flemington, Campsie, Granville, Blacktown, Katoomba, Sydenham and Central.

Applicants must:

  • be over 18 years of age;
  • demonstrate commitment to employee safety;
  • have knowledge of maintenance activities and tasks;
  • be medically fit to undertake heavy manual work; and
  • be prepared to work overtime and shift work - including weekends.

The selection process consists of job related testing and assessment centre activities. Pre-employment screening includes reference, medical and criminal record checks.

Project Engineers

Project Engineers

Project engineers contribute to various projects through managing the design components of large and small projects in order for Design Delivery managers to meet stakeholder requirements.

Applicants must;

  • be over 18 years of age;
  • have tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering or equivalent. Qualifications must be recognised in Australia.
  • a track record in planning, coordinating and delivering single and multi-discipline projects and managing associated elements such as resourcing/HR, safety, environment, finance and contracts management.

Project Managers

Project managers are responsible for the planning, scheduling, management and coordination of a range of key business projects across the organisation. They ensure that all project objectives and agreed specifications are achieved in accordance with project scope, programs, resource requirements, budgets, quality, safety and customer expectations. 

Applicants must;

  • be over 18 years of age;
  • have Tertiary qualifications in Project Management/Engineering or a relevant discipline or equivalent experience
  • demonstrated ability to manage and deliver projects of a single or multi disciplined nature
  • experience with project management tools, contract administration and negotiation procedures incorporating integration, scope, time, cost, quality, HR, communications, risk, procurement, financial and contract administration
  • knowledge and understanding of business objectives, policies and procedures for project management and those relevant to HR, safety, the environment and finance on projects or similar experience
