Creating Our Careers
We want you to get to know our apprentices. We are proud of them. They have impressive raw talents, a passion for their trades and are keen to pick up new skills whenever and wherever they are offered.

Creating Our Careers is a collection of personal stories from just some of our young men and women. The twenty-three stories are written in their own words and are all very different. They tell us how they came to be apprentices, give us an insight into the tasks and projects of their eight different trades, and outline where they want to take their careers.

Engineer Your Career
Engineer Your Career gives some great visual insights into the work done by our engineers. These men and women have been with us from four to forty years and every one of them still relishes the challenge of getting to work and making a contribution. They tell their stories in their own words and describe the passions that fuel their careers: from building bridges, to testing new trains, to working on hi-tech systems.

With the largest investment in infrastructure in sixty years and the rise of new technologies like Automatic Train Protection, the new PPP trains, the new OSCAR trains (Outer Suburban Cars) and the Rail Clearways program, there has never been a more exciting time to join RailCorp.

Faces of RailCorp
RailCorp is one of NSW's largest employers. Our workforce numbers more than 14,000 and this booklet, Faces of RailCorp, tells some of our stories.

It has been written to celebrate our remarkable diversity and the amazing richness this diversity can bring. Men and women of all ages, cultural backgrounds and educational experience tell us about themselves and the careers they are pursuing with us. Their stories describe why they joined us, what their hopes were and what they found.

I Run the Railways
RailCorp handles almost a million passenger journeys every day and I Run the Railways celebrates the teamwork and energy that comes from the thousands of employees who make it happen. And keep it happening, day-in and day-out.

These are men and women of all ages who work together around the clock. Many are part of a hidden workforce never seen by the public; the night cleaners, the signallers, the engineers, the security controllers, the maintenance crews, the planners, timetable strategists and more. These are their stories in their own words.

Join Our Team
Join Our Team celebrates the value and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have chosen to work in RailCorp. It tells the stories of 26 different Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, their life journeys and their contributions to the services and facilities that make RailCorp a leader in the transport industry.

Each of these people plays a significant role within RailCorp, including the cultural perspective they bring to their work and their workplace.

Women In Rail
Traditionally, Rail has been a male dominated industry, but at RailCorp that is now changing. Read about just some of our remarkable Women In Rail and the careers they are actively pursuing.

The twenty-three stories are told in their own words, and describe how they found their way to rail (from universities, schools, other organisations and other countries), and the opportunities and experiences they have encountered. The collection shows an impressive diversity of skills, vocations and life choices. And it illustrates the enormous contribution women are making to all areas of our business.

Years of Experience
Sometimes you have to take calculated risks with you career. The nineteen stories in “Years of Experience” tell of people who have done just that. Their reasons for changing their careers or employers are very diverse. Some speak of emigrating, others of unemployment, of renewed ambition or simply a change in self-perception.

The common theme that runs through all the stories however is one of discovery: about ourselves and what we are capable of given the right opportunities.

Young People Going Places
Every person has a story and every story is different. In Young People Going Places, Railcorp has collected the stories of thirty six of our young people, from all areas of our organisation. Their stories are told in their own words and explain how and why they came to work for us, what they found when they got here and the role they see Railcorp playing in their futures.

Railcorp is committed to creating a vibrant young work culture. And these stories show how our youth-focussed strategies are working - providing exciting opportunities, advanced learning and unparalleled career prospects.
