Rail overhead line worker
Rail overhead line workers construct and maintain high voltage transmission lines and 1500-volt overhead rail-traction wiring and associated equipment.
As an apprentice you get to work outdoors with a variety of interesting track machines and lifting equipment. You’ll need to work at heights and in all kinds of weather. The work is physically demanding yet rewarding.
Qualifications and licensing
On the completion of your apprenticeship you will achieve:
- Certificate III in Electricity Supply Industry (Powerline/Rail Traction)
- Medium Rigid Drivers Licence
Schedule of training
Four-year apprenticeship including on and off-the-job phases:
- Years 1 and 2 One day a week at TAFE
- Years 3 and 4 On-the-job under the supervision of a tradesperson
Rail-specific training is provided by qualified tradespeople at various locations throughout the length of the apprenticeship.
