Plant mechanic

As an apprentice plant mechanic with RailCorp you will learn skills to assist in the maintenance of heavy on-track machinery including track and point regulators, and overhead wiring machines. You will also maintain motorised and mechanised hand tools.

Training includes hydraulics and pneumatics and electronic program logic control principles.

Qualifications and licensing

On the completion of your apprenticeship you will achieve:

• Certificate III in Automotive (Heavy Mechanical)

Schedule of training

Four-year apprenticeship including on and off-the-job phases including:

• Years 1, 2 and 3 One day per week at TAFE and four days on-the-job training
• Year 4 On-the-job under the supervision of a tradesperson
