Safety
RailCorp has clear objectives to deliver safe, clean and reliable railway passenger services to the people of NSW.
Following the integration of StateRail and RIC, RailCorp continues to promote an integrated approach to safety and environment management through the maintenance and delivery of the environment safety health management system (ESHMS), to ensure the safety of infrastructure, rollingstock and people.
To achieve this outcome, the Corporate Environment and Safety division promotes visible and active leadership to encourage the development of a sustainable safety culture throughout RailCorp.
Within the divisions of the RailCorp, safety and environment management continues to be integrated into all work practices and core functions. Divisions ensure site-specific documents and systems of work help maintain workplaces which are safe and without risk.
SafeWorking rules
The SafeWorking website is an innovation in the rail industry and has been created as part of the safeworking rules review project.
Level crossings
There are more than 3800 railway crossings in NSW; 1500 are public rail/public road crossings. The interface of road and rail at level crossings represents a significant safety risk to both road and rail users. For further information visit the Level Crossings Strategy Council website.
