24 July 2010
The $220 million state-of-the-art Auburn Maintenance Centre for the next generation Waratah train fleet, was officially opened by New South Wales Minister for Transport, John Robertson on 24 July 2010.

The Waratah fleet safety and reliability testing program has commenced with a special four-car prototype test train beginning network trials in April 2010. The safety and reliability program is the most extensive ever undertaken to support the introduction of a new fleet and will aid the long-term reliability of the next generation Waratah trains.

13 December 2009
The first eight semi-fabricated carriages of the new Waratah trains arrived at Newcastle Port Sunday, 13 December 2009, from where they will be transported to nearby Cardiff for final assembly and manufacture.

29 July 2009
The next generation train was officially named the "Waratah" by the Minister for Transport, David Campbell, as he unveiled a four-carriage pre-production test train at Newcastle Port, 29 July 2009.

Other milestones recently achieved
The Critical Design Review for the Waratah train, its training simulator and the Auburn Maintenance Facility was achieved on 29 June, 2009.

On 1 May 2009 a $22 million upgrade of Downer EDI Rail's Cardiff Manufacturing Facility was officially opened, by the Minister for Transport, David Campbell.

The newly constructed simulator accommodation for crew training at Petersham was handed over to Reliance Rail in April 2009 for fit out and assembly of the new crew training simulators.
