150 years of NSW Railways 1855-2005 Celebrating 150 years of NSW rail transport

Australian Rail Monument opening

The Australian Rail Monument will be unveiled on 1 October at Werris Creek Station (click here to view the programme). This monument was erected as a permanent memorial to the workers who lost their lives in the construction and operation of the railways in Australia (around 2500 people in NSW alone).

An earth walkway rising out of the landscape will sweep around to the station and form an amphitheatre space within its arc and six striking sculptures of railway workers will lead visitors through imposing concrete corridors where the names of those who died will be remembered on an Honour Roll.
