Heritage train rides - a trip back in time

Locomotive No. 3526 departing Central StationThe NSW rail story came to life on 24 and 25 September with steam shuttle trips through the suburbs. Steam trains operated every 45 minutes from Central and trains were hauled by Locomotives 3801, 3526, 3830 and 3112.

Rail motor rides
A historic rail motor operated from Mortuary Station (Regent Street Chippendale, a 15-minute walk from Central Station) on 24 and 25 September, taking passengers around the metropolitan goods lines.

Steam train rides at Lidcombe
Steam train rides depart from Lidcombe for the nearby goods lines, which are not normally used by passenger trains. The service will operate every 30 minutes on Friday 30 September and Saturday 1 October between 10.00am and 2.00pm. Tickets are available on the day at Lidcombe Station at $10.00 per head.

1950s suburban electric train rides
The first electric suburban double-decker carriage will be included in a train running between Olympic Park and Lidcombe on 30 September and 1 October. You will need a valid CityRail ticket for travel between Lidcombe and Olympic Park stations to take a ride.
